Freycinet & East Coast information

Freycinet is a premiere holiday destination with luxury accommodation on Tasmania’s East Coast. It is located north of Schouten Island and encompasses area of Freycinet National Park. Spectacular Freycinet National Park, with Coles Bay at its entrance overlooking crystal-clear Oyster Bay, is an ideal place for diving, snorkelling, kayaking, boating and fishing. The park is dominated by the pink granite of the Hazards Mountains and best known for the perfect curve of Wineglass Bay.

The historic township of Swansea overlooks Great Oyster Bay and the beautiful Freycinet National Park. Wander the many beaches and bays in and around Swansea, and stop by lookouts over picturesque coastline. Shearwater (mutton bird) colonies are also common in the area. Swansea has a population of 530, housed in colonial buildings, contemporary homes and classic beachside shacks.

Swansea enjoys temperate weather all year round, with an average maximum of 22 degrees celsius in January and 14 degrees celsius in June.

Freycinet & East Coast regions

Swansea is located in the centre of Tasmania's east coast, on the northwest shore of Great Oyster Bay and overlooking Freycinet National Park. Swansea was the first municipality in Australia to be established after Hobart and Sydney and is home to colonies of short tailed shearwaters (muttonbirds) and fairy penguins.
